Traveling to Sewanee
Sewanee is located 93 miles southeast of Nashville (1.5 hours) and 52 miles northwest of Chattanooga (1 hour) atop the Cumberland Plateau in the Central Time Zone.

Stephen Alvarez is an award-winning National Geographic photographer, film-maker and explorer who produces global stories about exploration, adventure, culture and archaeology. He has published more than a dozen feature stories in National Geographic Magazine. The magazine has sent him from the highest peaks in the Andes to the depths of the deepest cave in the world. His latest National Geographic story on the origins of art took him everywhere from early human sites on the southern coast of Africa to Paleolithic art caves in France and Spain.

Sewanee provides funding for an approved summer internship or research fellowship, a semester-long study abroad opportunity at no additional tuition cost, and the ability to graduate with one major in four years. Of course, you will have to do your part. If you meet Sewanee’s academic and social expectations, these opportunities will be provided.
